Just to add to the discussion about playing in front of your computer real quick:

I’ve found that some of the guitarists I talk to prefer to have the flexibility of playing along with computer/online lessons, and others prefer DVDs and playing in front of their TV.

To me, both have their advantages, and depend heavily on the setup of your rooms. If you have the space in front of your computer, and your monitor/screen is at least 15.4″ (common laptop size), there’s not much problem learning on the computer.

Also, I’ve found it’s really nice to hook up a cheap cable you can buy at Radio Shack or Best Buy so you can plug your laptop into your TV. That gives you the best of both worlds: tons of flexibility with lessons and a larger screen size to watch them…all with easy rewind access.

Hi Guitar Master Girl:
I agree that having lessons online or downloading to a computer is kind of a pain – though I guess some people go through the trouble to make their own DVDs. Making your own amateur ones usually don’t have good sound and aren’t high resolution video.

well……gud website..i hope to find more of it as i explore it even more..its gud after all……..n i must not forget to mention that the get up n the design n all r just awesome….cool actually..thnx..2 b honest i’m one of those people who wishes 2 learn guitar every time they hear someone playing guitar…n really many have told me that guitar is such an easy instrument that one can learn it in a weekend….that also online!!!strange..huh???well i am desperate n serious ’bout learning it now n so i’m checking out nearly all the reliable websites n trying to find the best out of ‘em….u know….plz gimme tips n help me out in realizing my dream of being able to learn guitar so that i may play it at concerts just like a ROCK STAR!!!i look fwd 2 learn guitar playing frm this website itself………………………………..

Wow, that is really great that you were given a Fender Strat. That will work just fine to learn to play guitar on. As far as a recommendation, if you can afford the Learn and Master Guitar course on DVDs then get those! There is a really good Jamorama course that will work for starting on electric guitar here (I mostly wrote about the acoustic guitar course but the original course is good too): Jamorama, the Complete Guitar Learning System

I was given a Fender Strat and very interested in using it. Is it necessary to learn on an acoustic guitar first or could I jump right in? which Instructional path would you recommend? Thanks
